Excitation energies from density functional perturbation theory
We consider two perturbative schemes to calculate excitation energies, each employing the Kohn– Sham Hamiltonian as the unperturbed system. Using accurate exchange-correlation potentials generated from essentially exact densities and their exchange components determined by a recently proposed method, we evaluate energy differences between the ground state and excited states in first-order pertu...
متن کاملExistence of Minimizers of Nonlocal Interaction Energies
We investigate nonlocal-interaction energies on the space of probability measures. We establish sharp conditions for the existence of minimizers for a broad class of nonlocalinteraction energies. The condition is closely related to the notion of H-stability of pairwise interaction potentials in statistical mechanics. Our approach uses the direct method of calculus of variations.
متن کاملA density functional theory study of the benzene-water complex.
The intermolecular interaction of the benzene-water complex is calculated using real-space pseudopotential density functional theory utilizing a van der Waals density functional. Our results for the intermolecular potential energy surface clearly show a stable configuration with the water molecule standing above or below the benzene with one or both of the H atoms pointing toward the benzene pl...
متن کاملPerformance of conventional and dispersion-corrected density-functional theory methods for hydrogen bonding interaction energies.
The approximate CCSD(T)/CBS binding energies for the set of 23 hydrogen-bonded dimers (HB23) of the S66 set reported by Řezáč et al. (J. Chem. Theory Comput. 2011, 7, 2427-2438) were expected to be under-estimated based on the known under-binding tendency of the counterpoise correction combined with small basis sets. In this work, we present binding energies for the HB23 set of dimers obtained ...
متن کاملBeyond Density Functional Theory: the Domestication of Nonlocal Potentials
Due to efficient scaling with electron number N, density functional theory (DFT) is widely used for studies of large molecules and solids. Restriction of an exact mean-field theory to local potential functions has recently been questioned. This review summarizes motivation for extending current DFT to include nonlocal one-electron potentials, and proposes methodology for implementation of the t...
